OCR: Leonardo argues that the only explanation for the moon's large size and intense brightness is that it is covered in waves of water. If it were dense, like a mirror, it would appear smaller; if it were entirely a liquid body, it would not be as bright. He asserts that, like the waves on the earth's seas, each wave of these lunar waters both receives the sun's light and reflects it to other waves: "In the case of wavy water as we can see on our seas . . . the light will be given to each wave individually and then to all as a whole, causing a great deal of brightness ....
